Santa's update

 

As a follow up to the December newsletter, Santa has informed us that :-

 

* The route optimisation schedule MDS produced for him was excellent and saved him a lot of time and reindeer energy (further reducing his "footprint" and impact on the North Pole).

 

* The elves did some outsourcing this year for the first time, using MDS' many customer store locators.

 

* Sally did receive the bike she wanted, complete with helmet, bell and ribbons.

Product News

 

iPhone still the rage in 2010

 

2009 saw many customers look to create interactive locators for their customers using an Apple iPhone. 

 

Already, as 2010 begins, many more customers are working with MDS to develop tailored applications for the iPhone.  Multiple applications are now being developed for customers in the supermarket and petroleum industries.

Toro Australia (Toro) has continued their six (6) year relationship with MapData Sciences Pty Ltd (MDS) by upgrading the dealer locator on the Toro website, expanding on their customer service philosophy by making it easier for their customers to find their nearest dealer, instantly.

The science of mapping helps cancer patients receive treatment

 

MapData Sciences Pty Ltd (MDS) is helping the Faculty of Medicine at the University of NSW (UNSW) with their role as a leader in cancer research. The Faculty is studying the effect of geographic variation on radiotherapy use, by understanding the distance between a patient’s home and the nearest treatment facility.  Read the full story

The first asphalt road

The first traffic accident

 

"In March 1896, Charles and Frank Duryea of Springfield, Mass., offer the first commercial automobile: the Duryea motor wagon. Two months later, New York City motorist Henry Wells hits a bicyclist with his new Duryea. The rider suffers a broken leg, Wells spends a night in jail and the nation's first traffic accident is recorded."   Source: about.com:Inventors

 

 

The first cars in Australia

 

"The worlds first  practical automobile to be powered by an internal-combustion engine was patented by Karl Benz...1886.

 

Just 11 years later one of the first petrol driven - and in later designs - the first fully enclosed body cars produced in Australia was invented by Harry A. Tarrant in 1897 in Melbourne.  Tarrant was later joined by Howard Lewis, and together they produced another car using a 6 horse power engine. This car became known as the Tarrant, and over the years it underwent a number of design improvements and adjustments using both Australian made and imported components. The Powerhouse Museum in Sydney house a automobile engine produced by Tarrant Motor & Engineering Co dating back to 1908."   Source: cars.com.au (History of the Car in Australia)
