Product News

MDS RoadNET updates now shipping

MDS is now shipping updates of the RoadNet product.  One of the most noticeable inclusions to be seen is the CLEM Jones tunnel (Clem7) in Brisbane.  The tollway is 6.8km in length, 4.8 Km of which is tunnel.

“The tunnel takes motorists under the Brisbane River and provides a much-needed CBD bypass. For example, it takes less than 5 minutes to travel between the Royal Brisbane and PA hospitals using the CLEM7.

Motorists avoid up to 24 sets of traffic lights and reduce travel time by up to a third." source http://www.clem7.com.au/

Route Optimisation helps business maximise business

Quite often delivery schedules have evolved as the business has grown.  Managing and understanding your distribution can become quite complex as you move from a few vehicles to an entire fleet or distribution network.  A scheduler may know the best delivery sequence based on years of experience or planning using a distance matrix.

Using expert systems, MDS has been providing organisations with a scientific approach to help understand and visualise their current business environment and their end to end practices.  Once these areas are understood, MDS' expert systems are able to provide recommendations to aid business and process improvements that a client can use to implement changes that improve their efficiencies.

If you know there must be a better way or you want to re-confirm your current practices, MDS has the expert systems to help.

Three excellent business reasons to track vehicles

Vehicle tracking is often utilised in conjunction with Route Optimisation providing you with a current view, the information to assist with current and future planning, and to play back routes.

Imagine you are distributing seafood from centres all over Australia.  What would be the cost to business if the refrigeration became faulty and the cargo was at risk of perishing?

Now imagine the back office being notified of the problem, seeing the vehicle on a map, if other trucks are nearby, can one of them assist and is there a refrigeration repair centres in the area.  Then you can make quick decisions, save your produce and keep your customers happy.

Feedback received from peak industry bodies indicates three main business reasons why vehicle tracking technology is used:

1.  Demonstrating reasonable defence – removes bias from any party that puts a challenge to an operator that a vehicle was/was not in a place and at a time that is being challenged.

2.  Compliance with company policy objectives – ensures health and safety obligations in the work place are adhered to.

3.  Fleet operations and vehicle performance management.

Customer Corner

Customer service is not just company propaganda

When you truly believe that excellent customer service is key to your success and great value to your customer, it is pleasing to receive feedback not just from your customer, but your customers' customer.

Ben Edwards, MDS’ Customer Services Manager, received an email from Oscar Cordoba from Airds in NSW, who was using one of MDS’ partner mapping sites to find the home he recently moved in to.  Ben logged the request into the data management system to be actioned  and informed Oscar.  The following email was sent back to Ben and shows that customer service is something that MDS values highly.

Good Afternoon Ben,

Thank you for reading my feedback and furthermore thank you for letting me know how your Data management system functions.

Yes, I can appreciate that when and how your business partners implement your updates is up to them, you have done your job and that is clear but  you have also demonstrated excellent customer service proving that the quoted "Extraordinarily good business mapping products, services and advice for Australia, New Zealand and beyond." is not just  company propaganda but a true reflection of what MapData Sciences Pty Ltd means to its customers.

Thank you again.

Best Regards,

Oscar Cordoba

Did you know?

I like traffic lights,

but only when they're green

MDS recently asked its partner, Intelematics Australia Pty Ltd, for some estimates for the amount of Traffic lights in Australia. They did a count of all the intersections that have ID nodes for traffic signal feeds. This included the large regional centres but not the smaller centres.

Intelematics estimates that there are over 10,000 intersections in Australia, so if you then multiply this by 4 for the average amount of lights at an intersection it would be reasonable to estimate that there are over 40,000 traffic signals in Australia. Wow.

Did you know that Monty Python once wrote a song about traffic lights?  It was a huge success.  Listen  for yourself.
