Google MapsTM and Google EarthTM

What does MapData Sciences do for Google Maps?

We are one of many suppliers to Google Maps. Google is a great company to work with and we value their business. Google Earth is said to have over 500 million downloads, that's over 1 in every 4 people connected to the Internet and over 1 in 13 of the world's entire population! With this many people looking at our maps, we hope you understand that we cannot support Google users directly.

What do you supply to Google Maps?

We supply mapping data for Australia and New Zealand for Google Maps. We do not provide any satellite/aerial imagery. To find the supplier of satellite or aerial imagery for your area of interest, try locating the holder of the copyright prefixed with "Image:". Sometimes MapData Sciences data is blended with other suppliers so we may not be the only provider of data that is visible for Australian and New Zealand scenes.

Can I licence Google Maps?

Yes!  MapData Sciences is a reseller of the Google Maps Premier API. If you need access to Google Maps for your business (government or commercial) we are able to arrange a competitive licence for you.  Access to Google Maps is free for private users and not for profit organisations. Every other application requires a licence.

For further information or to obtain a licence, please contact our sales team who will be happy to help you.

How do I send an error report or other feedback?

To send an error report or feedback (good or bad), send an email to feedback@mapds.com.au with as much detail as possible and of course your contact details so that we can contact you to verify the issue.

Need to fix an error on Google Maps

MapData Sciences is committed to a continuous program of product improvement. We thank you for your time and effort in providing quality feedback. We will most likely verify the feedback and make the changes in our base data. Keep in mind that updating mapping data is a continuous process, with releases of updated material occurring at regular intervals throughout the year. Our updates are provided to our clients who in turn may also have a regular update process. All of this could take many months so your notified change may not be visible for quite some time, please be patient.

How do I request permission to reproduce a screenshot from Google Earth or Google Maps?

You will need to contact Google in your own country, plus each of the copyright holders listed on the screenshot you wish to use. If MapData Sciences copyright is listed, please contact our team at info@mapds.com.au  with a copy of the image or images and a clear description of your intended use.

Will it cost me anything to reproduce a screen shot from Google Maps?

MapData Sciences can only speak for its own part of the digital map content. Generally for reasonable private, non-commercial or academic use, we provide permission at no cost with an e-mail-based notification. For commercial or government use an agreement and licence fee will be applicable. Other suppliers will operate their own policy.

Perhaps I'll just use the screen shot and not tell you!

We would strongly advise against this as you may be in breach of the Google Maps licence agreement. The total content within Google Maps is worth millions of dollars and suppliers, including ourselves, vigorously defend our intellectual property. After all, it's the lifeblood of our business and we contribute strongly to the Australian economy. Google has made an incredible piece of technology available to the world which is free for many users. Please don't abuse it! If your usage of Google Maps adds value to your business it is only reasonable that you pay a reasonable fee for the goods that have allowed your increased value to occur.
